Mitchell D. Kaplan, DDS, PhD Dr. Kaplan completed his periodontal training at the prestigious Eastman Dental Center in Rochester, New York in 2000. While receiving his periodontal training he had the opportunity to do his PhD research at the University of Rochester studying inflammation in the nervous system while in the Dentist Scientist Award Program. After completion of his periodontal program, Dr. Kaplan became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology which signifies his commitment to practicing to the highest standard in periodontics. Dr. Kaplan received his dental education at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Following dental school, he finished a General Practice Residency and then completed an Oral Medicine Fellowship at the National Institute of Dental Research in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Kaplan is past president of the Russell W. Bunting Periodontal Society, our nation's oldest and largest periodontal study club, and past president of the Washtenaw District Dental Society (WDDS). He is a past Chair of Peer Review, Ethics of the WDDS. He is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the Midwest Society of Periodontology, the Michigan Periodontal Association, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Kaplan has served as a faculty member of both the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry.
